There's a new kid in town and his name is Berliner Wunderbar. Brand new to the Parisian bar scene, Berliner Wunderbar had its official opening only last weekend. You can find him nestled in the 11th arrondissement near Bastille on rue de Lappe (after you pass all the seedy bars at the start of the street).
Berliner Wunderbar is a breath of fresh air to this famous/infamous street. Its precise location is 49 rue de Lappe, on the other side, walking away from Bastille, near the baked potato joint and the charming little bistrot with its red and white checked table cloths at the end of the street.
With a distinct Berlin feel from its decor and design to its German beer available on tap and the word 'currywurst' on the menu, Berliner is a great place to sit down and enjoy a beer (or two) with a few of your mates at the end of the day, or the end of the week.
High ceilings were a welcomed feature at Berliner as a lot of the bars in Paris and around the Bastille area are tiny and crowded. Not too bad if you're tall and can breathe above your fellow bar hoppers. A little more of a concern if you aren't as tall and are hovering around the um.. armpit height. Fortunately this isn't something you need to worry about at Berliner.
Lastly I have to mention Berliner's cool photo booth at the far left corner of the bar. For 2€, you can take 4 photo booth shots and they will come out in both colour and black and white with the Berliner Wunderbar logo. Great little souvenir (as well as brilliant advertising idea) and also the perfect way to remember Berliner Wunderbar for next time..!
